LabelScan - Vision Inspection System

LabelScan Visual Inspection System's unique "Learning" feature assures that the right label is in the right place.

The Peco Controls LabelScan Inspection System provides an accurate and easy-to-use solution for monitoring high speed rotary labeling operations. The LabelScan inspection software “learns” the proper label appearance, presentation and location and then detects variations from that norm at levels that the user can adjust. The LabelScan tracks the eject image from detection, through to labeler discharge and thence to the ejector. Through continuous monitoring of the images, LabelScan minimizes the need for recalibration. The LabelScan system provides for the processing of images from multiple bottles at the same time as the labeler rotates the bottle through the camera range, the system analyzes multiple views of the same bottle with the same camera. This provides for a 360-degree view of the bottle with a single camera in most cases.

The stainless steel operator’s console provides convenient operator access and includes all principal electronic system elements in a distinctive presentation. The LabelScan console features a high-resolution display and both visual reject and power light indicators. Included in each LabelScan are all required sensors, camera, bracketry, and cabling.

Typical applications include direct mounting in roll fed and sheet fed rotary labelers where the LabelScan will inspect each container:

To confirm that the proper label has been applied
To detect any container with a missing label
To inspect each label for tears, ripples and irregular applications
To measure minimum skew at lap point

Precision:

LabelScan “learns” the proper label and location by assembling a statistical model of the target and then comparing each picture to the model. At the option of the user, LabelScan can eject products with extremely small differences or an acceptable amount of leniency.

Control:

LabelScan inspection can be targeted on specific parts of the labeled package by defining the appropriate “regions of interest (ROI).” In addition, a tolerance setting enables smaller defects to be either accepted or rejected by the user.

Changeover:

LabelScan stores multiple configurations from prior label runs for the same label. Each of these configurations can be easily accessed as a new run of an old labeled product commences. If differences require ther creation of a new model, LabelScan can assemble a new model in seconds.

Ejector / Diverter Options:

LabelScan can be configured to interface with existing ejectors or work with the full range of Peco ejectors such as the high speed EJH-ST or the unique SlimLine flexible rail system .

Versatile:

LabelScan’s single camera system frequently provides full circumference inspection of round containers by dividing each camera shot into multiple images and processing each separately. Optional multiple camera configurations allow for front and back inspection.

Ejector Control:

LabelScan includes Peco’s Multi-Trac ejector control system that assures accurate tracking of the mislabeled container from the discharge of the labeler to the ejector.

Easy to Operate

Setup -
LabelScan Lighting Setup - With proper lighting, the inspection region of interest is defined by setting of the rectangular inspection area. As shown, multiple images can be taken from the same camera for 360º visual inspection.

Learn -
LabelScan Learn - Once setup, the LabelScan will capture a sequence of images from the defined region of interest. The number of images varies with the repeatability of the container image and the degree of precision required for the application.
